Medications
You may stay on all of your regular medications, vitamins and/or herbal supplements except Diabetes Medication, Iron and Blood Thinning Medications. You do not need to stop Aspirin
Blood Thinning Medications:
Stop Eliquis, Xarelto, Pradaxa and Brillinta. You will be instructed how long to stop these medications by your Gastroenterologist or the provider who manages these medications.
Stop Plavix (clopidogrel) 7 days prior to your procedure unless otherwise instructed by your Gastroenterologist or the provider who manages this medication.
Stop Coumadin (warfarin) 4 days prior to your procedure unless otherwise instructed by your Gastroenterologist or the provider who manages this medication.
Diabetes Medications: Do not take your diabetes medication on the morning of your procedure unless instructed by your Gastroenterologist or the provider who manages these medications.
Iron: Stop Iron pills 5 days prior to your procedure.
Two Days Before Your Colonoscopy
Eat a low-fiber diet. Avoid eating raw vegetables, nuts and seeds.
Take 4 tablespoons of Milk of Magnesia after dinner.
The Day Before Your Colonoscopy
You must be on a clear liquid diet the entire day before your colonoscopy. Drink only clear liquids and eat no solid food.
At 3 pm - Drink 1 bottle (160 ml) of CLENPIQ. Drink an additional 5 (8ounce) glasses (total of 40 ounces) of water, at your own pace, within the next 2 hours.
Continue drinking clear liquids.
At 8 pm - Drink 1 bottle (160 ml) of CLENPIQ. Drink an additional 5 (8ounce) glasses (total of 40 ounces) of water, at your own pace, within the next 2 hours.
Generally, CLENPIQ starts working in about 20 minutes, but everyone's body is different so times will vary. Your bowel is "clean" when your bowel movements are translucent yellow/green and there is not brown stool.
The Day Of Your Colonoscopy
You may continue to drink clear liquids until 4 hours before your procedure. Do not drink Vanilla Boost on the day of your procedure.
Morning medications, except those listed below, may be taken up to 4 hours before your procedure with a small sip of clear liquid.
Do not take the following medications on the morning of your procedure:
ACE Inhibitors: Lotensin (benazepril), Vasotec (enalapril), Prinivil/Zestril (lisinopril), Univasc (moexipril), Aceon (perindopril). Accupril (quinapril), Altace (ramipril),
Mavik (trandolapril), captopril, fosinopril
Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists: Edarbi (azilsartin), Atacand (candesartan), Teveten (eprosartan), Avapro (irbesartan), Cozaar (losartan), Benicar (olmesartan),
Micardis (telmisartan), Diovan (valsartan)
You will be given a something to drink and a snack when you are awake and alert after your procedure. You may return to your normal diet after your procedure unless otherwise instructed upon discharge.
